The Manchester office is the historic headquarters of the WH Ireland group, being where the firm’s founder, William Henry Ireland, began his stockbroking business.
Serving clients across the country from its North West of England base, the office provides full wealth management and wealth planning services for individuals, trusts, pension funds, charities, and corporates both as direct clients and via intermediaries and financial advisers. The team is active in the local community with individual members sitting on a number of business, charity and independent school boards.
The office also houses the majority of the group’s operational, information technology and compliance activities. These teams pride themselves on high levels of customer service and benefits from a close working relationship and the significant resources available within the wider group.
Robert Race is Head of Office. He is joined by Deputy Head of Branch Andrew Shepherd, Investment Manager James Peters and Chartered Financial Planner Phil Sidebottom and their respective team members.
Robert is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment and holds the ASIP qualification with the CFA Society United Kingdom. He joined WH Ireland Limited in 2014.
Robert has over 30 years’ experience advising a number of high net worth individuals and families, trusts and charities across the UK. He chairs the North West Regional Advisory Group of the London Stock Exchange and the Board of Trustees of Wood Street Mission, the Manchester children’s charity founded in 1869 and is a Governor at Manchester Grammar School. He is a past chairman of Pro Manchester, the corporate membership organisation representing the financial and professional service community in and around Greater Manchester.
Andrew is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment and Deputy Head of Manchester Wealth Management and is responsible for the management of trust, corporate and private client assets. Andrew chairs the Group’s Collectives Committee and is a key member of the Asset Allocation and Portfolio Construction Committees.
After attending Hayward High School in Bolton, Andrew studied and attained a BA (Hons) in Economics from the University of Sheffield and was awarded the Clayton Prize for Economics on graduation.
Andrew began his career in 1998 as a Portfolio Manager with Capel Cure Myers, which later became part of Barclays Wealth. Andrew subsequently joined WH Ireland Limited as Associate Director in 2008.
Having graduated from the University of York with a degree in Economics and Economic & Social History, Phil began his career in the wealth management industry in London in 1999. Phil has achieved both Chartered Financial Planner and Chartered Wealth Manager status – qualifications regarded as the ‘gold standard’ of excellence and integrity for the wealth management industry.
Phil is a highly experienced and natural relationship builder and joined WHIreland in 2016 having previously worked at Barclays Wealth Investment Management and Coutts (in Manchester) where he provided specialist advice to high net worth individuals and families. Phil’s focus is to provide tailored financial planning solutions to clients with a particular focus on investment, retirement, and estate planning strategies within tax-efficient structures.
